AFRIC TRENDS

Ayomide Adeleye, the young man who admitted to killing his friend and neighbor, Christianah Idowu, is not currently held in any correctional facility in Lagos State, as confirmed by FIJ.Initially arrested and remanded in September, rumors about his possible release began circulating in December, alarming friends and family about the status of the murder case against him.

FIJ’s earlier investigation into these claims revealed that insiders in the police force had also heard similar reports; however, information was limited by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).A police insider commented.

The police transferred him to Ikoyi Prison, but the judiciary is slow in addressing the case. The remand warrant doesn’t expire, so it’s puzzling how he managed to secure his release for a murder charge.”Further inquiries revealed to FIJ that there were two individuals named ‘Ayomide Adeleye’ in NCoS custody, but neither was charged with murder, and both have since been released.A source within NCoS stated, “We had one in Ikoyi and one in Kirikiri Medium, but they are no longer with us.

They have been released. Neither was charged with murder or kidnapping.”When asked for clarification, the source reiterated, There is no Ayomide Adeleye in any prison in Lagos.

You might want to check with the police, as they are the ones who secured the remand warrant.FIJ attempted to contact Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police spokesman, but did not receive any response. Muyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, indicated he would investigate and report back to FIJ.Adeleye, a second-year Philosophy student at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) in Ogun State, confessed to murdering Christianah Idowu, a 300-level student at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) , in early September. On November 5, he appeared before magistrate Seyi Omodara at the Ogba Magistrate Court, where a remand warrant was issued for his detention at Ikoyi prison, pending the DPP’s advice.

FIJ contacted the DPP three days later but has yet to receive a follow-up, despite the initial promise of a response.
